|Editorial Spreads|

For my editorial spreads i have taken ideas from my first original idea within the thumbnail sketches and my third idea. This is to create the ideal mashup for my final piece i feel that the layout and simplicity of the first design would work particularly well with the range of images i have decided to use as well as the structure and professionalism of the third design.

I am going to take the simple black lined idea to create structure and add one page of the spread for a title page. I would like this to have a subtle affect, using a simple yet effective typeface. for the title typeface i have decided to use Bebas Neue. i feel that the bold typeface works really well with the serious and important issue. as the typeface stands out and doesn’t blend in too much i feel this looks effective next to a white space.

I also feel that this could look effective with a black background and white typography. the white would look interesting and draw attention from the reader as the use of black backgrounds aren’t overly used throughout editorial work. This would also show diversity within my pages yet keep a constant theme running throughout.

I also feel that large images used across a page within the spread might not work as i had originally planned with the imagery that i have decided to use. However the use of quotes and titles could work as imagery itself. Creating an impact and working together to keep the article a mystery and not giving too much away.

I have decided to keep with a simple consistent theme throughout. using the black and white and the use of a consistent typeface works really well within the editorial piece. for my body text i have decided to use a simple yet clear and legible typeface, Avenir. I have decided to use two different variations of the typeface in order to keep within the theme and show hierarchy within the text. I have decided to use both Avenir book and Avenir heavy. Avenir book is for the main body text, keeping it clear and consistent and easily read. Where the Avenir heavy, i have decided to use for call outs, stand first and quotes. The quotes are larger and therefore i have increased the point size of the text for the quotes and for the stand firsts to show the hierarchy within the piece itself.
